Matt LaFleur, the Rams’ first-year offensive coordinator, is scheduled to interview for the Tennessee Titans’ open head-coach position this week.
LaFleur is expected to talk to the Titans on Thursday, according to a report from NFL Network, but would be considered a longshot to get the job, primarily because of a lack of experience.
LaFleur, who turned 38 in November, was a top deputy to Rams coach Sean McVay last season, but did not call plays. LaFleur’s NFL background also includes six seasons as a quarterbacks coach in Washington (2010-13, when he first worked with McVay) and Atlanta (2015-16).
The Rams hold LaFleur in high regard, though, and he is considered to be a serious candidate for future head coaching jobs. LaFleur is credited for working this season with quarterback Jared Goff, who went from inconsistent rookie to Pro Bowl alternate in 2017.
With LaFleur’s assistance, the Rams were the NFL’s highest-scoring team in 2017. They scored the fewest points in the league in 2016.
