This is a fine kick in the nuts.
I was watching NFL Network last night when I heard it.
That’s it. There goes the season. It was fun. There was a lot of promise, of course.
But I can’t think of another team that gets more out of their kicker than this team. This can’t be dismissed as–“It’s JUST the kicker.”
This is huge.
This will cost them a game—maybe both of the last two games.
Come on Dallas! Beat the Seahawks!
Am I overreacting?
Maybe. But of the Rams 438 points scored, GZ accounted for 158 of them. It works out to a little over 11 points per game. Now Fickken won’t miss every field goal or extra point(I hope) but there’s a reason he was not on an NFL squad. How many Rams drives would stall only to have GZ kick a FG that may result in 0 now? Look at last week. The Rams started out with two field goals. They built on that.
The Rams will have to dominate games now. They won’t be able to play it to squeak out the close victory. They have to MAKE sure now. This will affect coaching strategy for the remainder of the year.
Look–I’d rather have Gurley stay healthy, and Whitworth, and Goff and Donald–of course.
But this is a huge loss for this team.
Okay–the Eagles lost their kicker and found a great replacement. It can happen. I HOPE it happens.
But this concerns me.
I just hope that it doesn’t come down to missed field goals or extra points. That would be a shame.
Now–someone talk me down off the ledge. I’ll be listening to Jeffery Osborne.
