He plays a normal 1-gap shade NT and when it comes to that is better than anyone Phillips had playing the same position in Denver.
When you talk about the burden put on the NT in a 3/4 I think you’re thinking of 2-gap systems. 2-gap NTs have to keep blockers off the LBs or the defense doesn’t work. That’s not how this defenses does things.
The 1-gap 3/4 Phillips uses does not put the same kind of pressure on the DL. Brockers attacks a gap. When it comes to that, the way Brockers plays this year will not be any different from what he was doing last year in a one-gap attacking 4/3. In fact as far as both Brockers and Donald are concerned, they’re just not going to be doing anything different from what they were doing last year.
