I saw this flick over the weekend.
It checks all the boxes:
Action: check
Special effects: check
Humor: check
Plot: Eh. Not so much.
The more I think about this film the less I liked it. It’s non-stop action but the plot–and by that I am focusing on the tool they use to make this “civil war” happen feels a bit far-fetched to me. Maybe not all of it. Yes–there is an accord to bring the superheros under the direction of the U.N. and some heroes are on board with that(Iron Man, War Machine, Black Widow) and others are not(Captain America, Falcon, Scarlet Witch–others).
But the plot needed something else to really bring these guys to “war”. And that part is frankly ridiculous–even for a superhero film. I won’t give it away but there are so many ridiculous things that have to fall in line to make it happen that while I was able to suspend my disbelief that a man can shrink to the size of an ant I couldn’t get past this sort of lazy way to bring them into battle against one another. Anyone who has seen it will know what I’m talking about–and maybe they’ll disagree. but I can’t say much about it without spoilers.
Two new heroes–at least to the Avengers and they were both okay. The new Spiderman kid was okay and I loved Black Panther.
Also–if you go–the two extra scenes(after credits) aren’t really worth sticking around to watch.
Possibly my least favorite Avengers film.
The other problem–I want Supervillains in my superhero films and this didn’t have one.
I would have been happy waiting for video on this one.
