Just saw CACW. Easily the darkest of the Avenger films but still has a sense of humor. It’s being billed as the best superhero movie of all time. I don’t agree with that – I don’t think it’s even the best Avenger movie but it’s very good. I enjoyed the original more but it is better than Ultron. There’s also some unexpected characters in the film that add to the fun.

I am going tonight with all my seniors. It’s what they wanted to do. I don’t know what’s going on. I never heard of Ultron, and I don’t know what this movie is about. I saw the Avengers first movie, and I like Ironman. But Captain America never captured my interest. In any event, I gather this movie is not a musical, and it wasn’t written by Sam Shephard or David Mamet. Movie starts at 11:30. I will probably be asleep by 12:05.

I liked it. I thought it was well done. There are minor changes in the characters (Wanda doesn’t mindread in this one). I liked Winter Soldier better, but I liked this well enough.

I really like that they are talking about “what does ‘freedom’ mean?”

That’s a big question and I’m fully a Cap guy. From the trailers, they seem to have done Spidey right, as well.

The already told comic version is actually just…sad. No happy ending at all, sorta like real life in a lot of ways. Well scripted.

I’m amazed at the amount of subversive conversation happening within the mainstream pop culture these days. I wonder if the powers that be recognize it???

Apparently Capn A has been around a long time, I guess. I heard a snippet about him on npr and they said he was written in a propaganda context
back in the Nazi days around WW II.

Which has nothing to do with the Marvel films, I might add. They took the character down an entirely new path. Winter Soldier is a good film. It’s the opposite of what you would expect if you relied on the older history to guide you.

Capn A isn’t simply a young Ronald Reagan with superpowers. He’s not jingoistic in the least. He mistrusts authority and doesn’t blindly obey anyone. There’s nothing in his persona that would suggest he’s overly patriotic. His only loyalty is to his friends and his own convictions about right and wrong…
