Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch joined The U.S. Bank Afternoon Drive on Tuesday to talk several Rams topics, including the team’s decision to bench quarterback Nick Foles for Case Keenum against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday.

Warning: JT starts at 13:01 or so in.

On Case Keenum’s prospects as Rams QB:

“I’m not predicting we’re going to see a revival of what happened in 1999 or even in 2002. Sometimes a quarterback can come in and play very well. This is a chance for Keenum. The question is has he learned from (his handful of starts for the Texans)? Will he be better from those experiences? He may not get another opportunity in the league. He’s got a strong backer in Jeff Fisher and has some mobility which will help with the current state of the offensive line.”

Do you think we’ve seen the last of Nick Foles as the Rams quarterback?

“I guess part of it depends on how we takes this…if he continues to try and learn the offense. This was a dramatic change in offense for him. If nothing else, just being under center every play. But also in terms of the reads and progressions. It’s not like the guy doesn’t have talent. We saw him play very well (against Seattle and Arizona). You never know how these things work out.”

That;s how I see it. There was more of an adjustment and he wasn’t executing.

I don’t know if he had sight adjustments before, either.

Or if the called protections against the blitz.

He looked more uncomfortable and unconfident and pressing than just plain lacking.

I still think the Foles of 2014 (not 2013) is possible with the Rams and that’s more than good enough.

chances are he’s done. we can hope for the best, but odds are he’s done.

you usually see signs by this point. we’ve seen flashes but not nearly enough to have any kind of confidence. for me at least.

and odds are keenum isn’t the answer either. i would draft a qb next year. now that depends on what they think of mannion, but again. the chances of a third rounder making it are pretty slim so they’d better be pretty confident they have an answer among those three qbs if they don’t.

now watch foles prove me wrong…

Well I see him as being set up for a return. Who gets benched with the coach saying he will be back?

And I have seen signs at this point. He played better before in 2014 plus in the ARz and Seattle games, AND on top of it, in terms of what is wrong, has all the symptoms of not really “getting” this offense yet—which is something that can change.

So I think JT is right about all that.

And they can still draft someone. Setting Foles up for a return doesn’t preclude that.

I expect he will be back. Keenum is going to get killed behind that line before the end of the year, and they will have to put Foles back in.
