i know this much. kendricks and harkey are more valuable to this team than cooks who can’t even do the thing he is payed to do. catch balls. i’d rather have kendricks and harkey opening up holes for gurley than cooks who just stands there if the ball doesn’t go to him.
on gurley. i think he showed good vision on some of those runs. and he’s able to not only vary his speeds but vary his foot speed as well. he’s able to set up blocks. this might be crazy, but i think already he’s showing better vision and run instincts than steven jackson. gurley is just such a natural. it’s hard to believe he hasn’t played competitive football in almost a year.
i also agree with baldinger in that we have yet to see the best of this guy. he’s only got 2 games under his belt. i think he’s continuing to knock off rust. getting back to full game conditioning. i think he’s still learning the protections. once he does that i think we see him more on third downs. i think he’s still got a lot to show as a receiver. he’s supposed to have great hands and run great routes. that’s another aspect of his game that should give defenses even more to think about, and i’m hoping it opens things up for his teammates as well.
