    Sight & Sound poll

Every decade, the British film magazine Sight & Sound asks an international group of film professionals to vote for the greatest film of all time. The Sight & Sound accolade has come to be regarded as one of the most important of the “greatest ever film” lists. The American film critic Roger Ebert described it as “by far the most respected of the countless polls of great movies—the only one most serious movie people take seriously.”[1]

Inter estingly, on that Sight and Sound top50 list, only

    4. La Règle du jeu

    Jean Renoir, 1939 (100 vote

Which I know in its english subtitled version as Rules of the Game.

It’s a great film, but I was surprised to find out it was universally hated in France when it was first released.

    What!

    No “Human Centipede?”

    This is an outrage.

I must say that the Sight and Sound list wasn’t that impressive for me. Yeah–a few: Godfather flicks, Apocalypse Now, etc. But really? “Mulholland Drive?” I don’t even think Lynch knew what he wanted that film to be. Nonsensical garbage that only the finest critics at blowing smoke up each others ass can appreciate.

Anyway–someday I will post my filmlist and everyone on the internet will nod thoughtfully and say, “You know–he’s right.”

That list is whack. I could come up with a better list in my sleep.

First of all, any serious discussion of the best films in history begins and ends with the “Twilight” franchise.

If you’re not willing to concede that TRUTH then don’t waste my time pretending to know cinema.
