Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher – 9/15/15

(On how the players feel about the new game week schedule)
“Players are good with it. Yeah, they’re good with it. They loved the schedule last week. They felt fresh going into the game. Had a lot of energy at the end, so we hope it carries over.”

(On how he came up with the new schedule)
“We’re always trying to do things differently. I considered it last year and it just didn’t really fit with the staff. So I gave them the heads up during the offseason, this is probably the direction we’re going to go.”

(On how the coaches are adjusting to the new schedule in regards to game planning)
“Well you just do…yes it does, but we’ve adjusted and everybody’s fine. You get to get caught up on Thursday. You do some things early in the week that you ordinarily would do late in the week, but you still repeatedly cover them on Saturday. So, we’re just kind of moving things around a little bit.”

(On if this is a normal week of practice and if the team will do a little more on Saturdays)
“This’ll be a normal week. This is what we’re going to stick with.”

(On if today was a normal practice)
“No. I don’t ask them to get to full speed two days after, unless you have a Thursday game. So no, we kind of recharged today and we installed. So tomorrow will be a normal Wednesday for us then Thursday’s a complete rest day for them.”

(On how RB Tre Mason looked at practice today)
“He was good. Yeah, looked good. Todd (Gurley) got some work with the 1s today, first time, and Tre looked good. He felt good.”

(On RB Todd Gurley getting action with the 1s)
“Yes, that’s our plan this week.”

(On if Gurley is still a ways away from returning to game action)
“Don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see.”

(On if it’s a possibility that Gurley could play this week)
“Yeah, there’s always that possibility. I ruled him out in the preseason and ruled him out last week. I’m not ruling him out right now. We’ll see how he does, but this is a medical decision, a trainer’s decision, a collective decision. But we’ll see how he does this week.”

(On if he needs to see Gurley get a certain number of football reps to get comfortable with playing him first)
“I’m not concerned about him knowing what to do, whatsoever. He knows what to do.”

    (On CB Trumaine Johnson’s status)
“He’s coming along. He’s getting better. I’ll have a report for you on Friday.”

(On if Johnson has to go through a several day process to get cleared to play)
    “That’s correct.”

(On his early read on the Redskins)
“I’m very, very impressed with (Redskins Kirk Cousins. He was a really good quarterback in college. I know he’s had some rough outings, but he spread the ball around real well against a really tough Miami defense last week and made good decisions. He can make all of the throws. He’s mobile and will look down. He understands their offense, so I’ve got a lot of respect for him.”

(On how much the trade with Washington freed them up to go into this year’s draft and do what they did to build the offensive line)
“It had a lot to do with it. Just particularly because of our needs early on once we got here. The trade certainly helped us and we benefited from it. You look at your roster, go into this year’s draft and it’s an opportunity to build your offensive line. Not that we saved that for last, but we just didn’t have any other options there other than try to plug people in. So, now we’ve got a young group that we think is going to grow together.”

(On if this past year’s draft was deep for the offensive line)
“We felt like it was going to be a good year, but we didn’t know that two years ago. You just don’t know. You do your work. We spent a lot of time on it. Obviously, it has paid off for us so far.”

(On who will be the coin toss captains against Washington)
“Probably going to be the captains that were elected by their teammates. Since you guys didn’t notice it last year anyways (laughs).”
