Jim Thomas: Rams’ Foles “Quickly Establishing” Himself as Leader

St. Louis Post-Dispatch Rams beat writer Jim Thomas joined The Hollywood Casino Press Box on Tuesday to discuss some select topics surrounding the team’s training camp, which is in full swing.

We typed up a few quotes from the segment, which you can listen to by clicking below:

Reaction to judge’s stadium ruling yesterday?

“I think it’s another hurdle crossed by the stadium task force. It’s one step closer to making this happen. It’s not the end all, be all. The sooner they can tell the league they’re OK, the judge has already ruled on it…the better off this whole process will be. Because it very much looks like we’re entering the fourth quarter on this whole thing.”

What about the other lawsuit in Cole County?

“The handful of state legislators…they want to have a vote on the state piece of financing. The governor and Peacock and Co. think they are on good footing there as well.”

Do you think the Rams are going to stay?

“If St. Louis has learned anything from the NFL it’s that you never know until it’s official. Look at that heartbreak in the expansion process in the early 1990s. They thought they had a team and it all fell apart. The league a lot of times will take the path of least resistance. I talked to a couple of long-time NFL executives and one was pretty positive about St. Louis…The other said at the end of the day, the league might decide they can’t stop Stan and let him go if he decides to go rogue.”

On the likeability of Nick Foles:

“Foles has quickly established himself as a leader. He’s one of those guys who have a presence. Even Les Snead was talking about it the other day. He has an ability to relate to people. Your natural instinct is to compare that to Sam Bradford. Does that mean Bradford didn’t have the people skills or the leadership skills? I don’t know. But it sounds like Foles is establishing his leadership presence. And you really need that. Beyond knowing the playbook, being able to make the throws. It’ll be an ongoing process. You just don’t become everybody’s best friend on the offense in a matter of months. But it certainly looks like he’s getting there.”
