EARTH CITY, Mo. — St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris Long never misses an opportunity to have a little fun via social media.

So when ESPN NFL Insider Chris Mortensen reported Tuesday that former Rams offensive tackle Jake Long was taking a physical and working out for the Atlanta Falcons, Chris Long quickly struck via Twitter.

Chris Long and Jake Long, of course, are not actually related. But during the two years Jake Long spent in St. Louis, that distinction seemed to get lost on many. The pair was regularly asked if they were related or, in some cases, even mistaken for one another.

At one point, the Rams even did a promotion where they gave away figurines of each player that could be matched up against each other.

Chris Long does have a brother playing offensive line in the NFL but it’s the Chicago Bears’ Kyle Long. Chris and Kyle are the sons of Hall of Famer Howie Long and they have a brother, Howie Jr., working in the Oakland Raiders’ organization.

But when it comes to NFL bloodlines in his family, that’s the Long and short of it.
