NFL summer rosters include 41 former Auburn players

Former Auburn players in the NFL could form a complete team, at least for this summer. The 90-player rosters that NFL squads carry at this time of year have enough ex-Tigers to put full offensive and defensive units on the field, plus a place-kicker, punter and long snapper.

In all, 41 former Auburn players are on current NFL rosters. Last season, 28 former Tigers saw action in the NFL.

Among the NFL’s teams, the St. Louis Rams have the most Auburn players with five.

NFL teams can carry 90 players during the summer. In the regular season, that number is cut to 53. Organized Team Activities begin this week for five NFL teams, with the rest (except for the Rams) starting next week. OTAs are Phase 3 of the NFL offseason program. No contact drills are allowed, but teams can hold 11-on-11 practices during their 10 days of OTAs.

With the extra roster room, NFL teams have added their draft picks, undrafted collegians, tryout players who earned longer looks and free-agent veterans to their regulars.

Seven of the ex-Auburn players in the NFL are cornerbacks, the most popular position among former Tigers. There also are five linebackers and five defensive tackles. On offense, the most populous position is guard with four former Auburn players.

The former Auburn players on current NFL rosters, arranged by team, include:

Atlanta Falcons: Josh Harris, long snapper; Jonathon Mincy, cornerback; Robenson Therezie, safety.

Carolina Panthers: Cameron Artis-Payne, running back; Tyronne Green, guard; Cam Newton, quarterback.

Chicago Bears: Jeremiah Ratliff, defensive end.

Cincinnati Bengals: Onterio McCalebb, cornerback; Pat Sims, defensive tackle; C.J. Uzomah, tight end.

Cleveland Browns: Karlos Dansby, linebacker.

Detroit Lions: Josh Bynes, linebacker; Gabe Wright, defensive tackle.

Houston Texans: Jay Prosch, fullback; Chad Slade, guard.

Indianapolis Colts: Quan Bray, wide receiver.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Corey Grant, running back; Sen’Derrick Marks, defensive tackle; Nick Marshall, cornerback.

Kansas City Chiefs: Dee Ford, linebacker; Ben Grubbs, guard.
