ESPN Reporter Britt McHenry Berates A Towing Company Employee

A video has popped up on LiveLeak of a woman who appears to be ESPN reporter Britt McHenry dressing down a towing company employee, making fun of the woman’s features, and using the “do you know who I am?” argument.

It’s unclear what exactly made McHenry so mad, but she is furious. At one point, she looks directly at the security camera. Some select quotes:

“I’m in the news sweetheart, I will fucking sue this place.”

“So I could be a college dropout and do the same thing?”

“I’m on television and you’re in a fucking trailer, honey.”

“Lose some weight, baby girl.”

On April 6, McHenry tweeted about getting her car towed in Arlington, Va. while she was eating dinner. The original tweet’s deleted, but an ARLnow article preserved it.

When asked for comment, a spokesperson for ESPN said, “We are aware of a recent exchange between Britt McHenry and a towing company employee. We are now reviewing the matter with her.”

Update (4:24 p.m.): McHenry has apologized:

In an intense and stressful moment, I allowed my emotions to get the best of me and said some insulting and regrettable things. As frustrated as I was, I should always choose to be respectful and take the high road. I am so sorry for my actions and will learn from this mistake.

Update (5:09 p.m.): ESPN has suspended McHenry for one week.

Britt McHenry had a bad day. Maybe she’ll grow from this experience. She must have parked where she wasn’t wanted.

Well, I can understand anger and calling someone a Bozo,
or scum-sucking-cretin. That sort of thing.
But her little diatribe revealed an inner ugliness
that I dont like. I would not cry if espn canned her.

with respect to fairness, i’m pretty sure what happened to her was illegal. obviously i don’t know the details, but a lot of towing companies will just tow cars in order to extort money from their owners.

having said that, the things she said were pretty vicious.

it happened to me once. i payed the guy off before he could tow it away. it can be very frustrating when it happens to you. but yeah. no reason to respond like that.

I think we should vote to paint her with chicken fat and throw her to the hogs.

I work with and for like 50 to 60 women – some are bosses some aren’t – a couple are my boss. There’s all kinds of stuff that goes on – mostly between them. They fight, bicker, condemn, and stage all kinds of bullshit. Most are normal humans – some have issues and bring a lot of drama to the table. Some are just efffing mean and vindictive. Their frustration and inner ugliness takes all forms it seems. I have no idea who Britt McHenry even is – I don’t recall ever noticing her before this. Anyway – she’s young and brash it seems and obviously not always in control and that bothers her. I’m serious about her growing from something like this – either she will or she won’t – it’s up to her to see how others are seeing her and try to change.
