Matthew Stafford finished yesterday’s game with 375 passing yards, three touchdowns and a 123.5 passer rating. It was the most passing yards in a game for Stafford since Week 13 of the 2020 season. He also passed Kurt Warner for the sixth-most passing TDs in franchise history (103).September 29, 2025 at 7:20 pm #158330

Emmanuel Forbes among qualified CBs this season, per NGS:204 yards allowed (9th-most)
Perfect 158.3 passer rating allowed (worst)
3 TDs (2nd-worst)Allowed 12-of-14 targets to be completed.
Certainly worth the reclamation project, but so far, it hasn’t worked well at all.
His lack of strength is way too evident.

znModeratorCobie Durant takes over CB1 spot:
Emmanuel Forbes Jr. had been the top cornerback with Ahkello Witherspoon out and he was the starter in each of the first four games but he played just 61% of the snaps on Sunday, his lowest of the season. Durant, on the other hand, played 77% for the second week in a row, climbing the depth chart as the team’s top cornerback. Forbes struggled in this one, allowing a long catch to Adonai Mitchell and a touchdown to Michael Pittman Jr., so perhaps the Rams reduced his playing time as a result.

znModeratorBrock Vierra, from Rams Mailbag: https://www.si.com/nfl/rams/los-angeles-terrance-ferguson-steve-avila-sean-mcvay-san-francisco-49ers
The offense can be opened up and more explosive with TFerg. Why can’t he get on the field. What is holding him back?
He’s just not ready. I don’t know when that will be but that’s been the word out of the facility. Ferguson also needs to put some weight on him, something he wasn’t able to do this offseason due to the draft but it’s clear the time he missed in training camp was more damaging than initial findings.
Will there be any trades for…o-line?
…no there won’t be any trades for offensive lineman unless something dramatic happens.
Here’s what I know. The Rams love Justin Dedich and Beaux Limmer. They don’t want to lose either of them. The Rams can’t afford to cut tackles either because Alaric Jackson has a fluctuating health issue that needs constant monitoring and Rob Havenstein is an older player who has been playing banged up.
Plus, the market is awful right now for a backup interior offensive lineman.

10 thoughts on the Rams after watching the coaches film:1. Matthew Stafford came out a little off. He was throwing a lot to players he often doesn’t (RBs, mainly) and sped up by a Colts rush that was winning more than normal.
This is where Puka Nacua really carried things.
2. Kyren Williams was much more patient than Blake Corum on the Rams’ zone runs — setting up blockers, toying with unblocked defenders and finishing through contact.
Feels like he’s getting going after a slowish first two games. pic.twitter.com/7kiXCBqdiV
— Nate Atkins (@NateAtkins_) September 30, 2025
3. Interesting to see the shift back to 11-personnel this week (85% of looks) with Puka Nacua working like TE2 in the run game and with Jordan Whittington as a motion, move blocker.
Still don’t get running a QB sneak out of 11 vs. 9 men in the box. Zaire Franklin lives for that. pic.twitter.com/6m99GPLJ2s
— Nate Atkins (@NateAtkins_) September 30, 2025
4. Blake Corum makes more sense as a second-half change-up to Kyren Williams once he wears down linebackers a bit and they can run more power scheme. And numbers are bearing this out.
Sunday was a day to feed the hot hand in the middle quarters more than they did.
5. I know Colts fans are wondering why they didn’t switch Xavien Howard off Puka Nacua more. It’s because this was going to happen with Davante Adams. Seems simple, but Howard is bracing for his vertical speed.
And Puka could have motioned into slot and wasted Charvarius Ward. pic.twitter.com/RS8fnWOXH8
— Nate Atkins (@NateAtkins_) September 30, 2025
6. The benefit of Puka Nacua going nuclear: Nick Cross bites on his in cut and leaves Tyler Higbee uncovered for a chunk gain.
Nobody better than Matthew Stafford at directing traffic with his eyes.
L.A.’s secondary targets need to remain so and find their food this way. pic.twitter.com/0MGzoFovxs
— Nate Atkins (@NateAtkins_) September 30, 2025
7. The issue with trying to spread the ball around right now is the players the Rams are playing don’t have the chemistry and skill sets to offer a ton.
They have two who do (Tutu Atwell and Terrance Ferguson) but haven’t wanted to play either all that much because of blocking.

So the Rams got an extremely banged-up — and not good — 49ers team on TNF and then a Ravens team that might start a few fans on defense + potentially no Lamar Jackson. No excuse — a 5-1 record is staring at you in the face.

8. Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay were on one in the fourth. Lots of hooks/curls/comebacks that sliced up Indy’s zones. A couple money designs to isolate Puka Nacua and Davante Adams based on where the attention shifted.Pass pro also stepped up against a 4-man pass rush.
9. The Rams were fortunate that Alec Pierce missed this game — not only as a threat on deep in-breaking routes but also as a perimeter blocker. That saved a big Jonathan Taylor day.
Teams with two good perimeter WRs will make it hard for L.A. to hide and mix skill sets at CB.
I love this 3rd-and-long rush package:
Jared Verse with a running launch at the C, creating a loop for Kobie Turner to get in the face of the QB with Byron Young & Josiah Stewart either rushing or dropping out of that disruption.
I’d put L.A.’s edge group up there with any. pic.twitter.com/RWOo4EORfk
— Nate Atkins (@NateAtkins_) September 30, 2025
And a bonus No. 11:
Just a cool-ass rep from Jared Verse. Lot of focus on sack numbers but his power is doing more than setting an edge in the run game; it’s changing the path for the back.
Teams like to run at elite edge rushers to slow them down and it’s a bad idea with him. pic.twitter.com/cAO994Zj0P

The Rams have 59 plays this season that have gained at least 10 yards, most in the NFL. The Rams already have seven touchdowns of 10+ yards, more than half of their total from last season.September 30, 2025 at 9:34 pm #158395
znModeratorEven though he “only” has two sacks, Verse remains one of the best edge rushers in football. According to Pro Football Focus’ pass-rush win rate metric, Verse ranks fifth among all edge rushers with a win rate of 26.1%. The only players ahead of him are Myles Garrett, Wil Anderson Jr., Micah Parsons and Danielle Hunter.
***
imagine how terrified Colts quarterback Daniel Jones and center Tanor Bortolini felt as the Rams outside linebacker paced back and forth directly in front of Bortolini pre-snap before the 6-foot-4, 265-pound Verse bulldozed his way through to the passer.
It helped contribute to Verse’s season-high six pressures, according to Next Gen Stats, and he finished with a sack for the second-straight game.
“Well, I tried to talk to them into doing that for like, three weeks,” Verse said Tuesday. “They wouldn’t do it, and then I threw it out last week and they randomly added it in, and I was like, ‘Alright, f— it, let’s try it!’ I didn’t think they were gonna call it in-game. They call it and I’m like, ‘Alright, bet, I gotta make this worth it, I gotta keep this call in.'”
…
“It’s something I enjoy,” Verse said. “I like being in different positions because, like, it’s not often I get to go up against a center or guard and use my speed, my power, to be able to play them games from a different position. I like that.”

Thanks for that. The memory of that game had sunk down below consciousness, and it pleases me to have that memory resurface. The goalpost falling over was one of the damnedest things I’ve seen happen.
