Sean McVay on how ILBs Jake Hummel, Omar Speights earn more opportunities: You continue to give those guys opportunities throughout the course of these practices, and if it got to a point where we felt like that was the best option for us, then those guys would be out there.

Tre’Davious White had his best game in coverage in Week 4: 2-of-3 allowed for 13 yards White was nearest defender on 4 TDs in the first 3 games, but cleaned it up in Week 4

    Just noting this…

Under Aubrey Pleasant in 2021, the Lions pass defense finished 27th in DVOA and 30th in EPA.

Through 8 weeks in 2022, they ranked dead last before Pleasant was dismissed. Were 17th in EPA rest of the season.

Rams currently have 31st ranked pass defense.

Cooper Kupp has missed the last 2.5 games and he still has 5 more catches than any other Rams player this season

My thinking is that the #Rams red zone play-calling isn’t good enough. Now, couple that with no Cooper Kupp who is one of the best red zone receivers in the game and the OL giving up three of their 13 sacks in the red area … it’s not hard to see why their red zone numbers suck

The #Rams have opened the practice window for DL Larrell Murchison and CB Darious Williams — and Williams was designated for return, an indication he’ll play quickly.

Rams rookie Jared Verse has been named defensive rookie of the month. Verse led all rookies with 5 TFLs and was the only rookie to record 4-or-more tackles in each game this month.

Rams iOL Logan Bruss is a prime example of why it’s important to be patient in player development. Not sure his comeback this season has been talked about enough. Bruss currently ranks fourth via ESPN’s run-block win rate. He is PFF’s top-rated guard on gap-scheme runs. This isn’t to say that Bruss has been perfect. Still has some rough moments in pass protection.

Rams CB Darious Williams was a full participant in practice. So it appears he is trending toward playing against Packers.

    from https://www.therams.com/news/jordan-whittington-is-ascending-in-the-rams-wide-receiver-room

When the Rams’ sixth-round rookie wide receiver Jordan Whittington caught 11 passes for 126 yards through two preseason games, many suspected that general manager Les Snead had hit on another late-round gem. What’s been unexpected is how quickly Whittington has received the opportunity to showcase that value in the regular season, in part due to injuries in his position group.

Well, it wasn’t surprising to everyone.

“When I first saw Puka Nacua, I knew he was something special. I felt the same way for Jordan,” wide receiver Tutu Atwell said.

McVay said quarterback Matthew Stafford is experiencing back soreness, but he anticipates Stafford will be a full participant in practice when Rams return from bye week to prepare for Oct. 20 game against Raiders.

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Matthew Stafford has back soreness but McVay said this should not impact his availability.

Jordan Whittington hurt his shoulder, should not impact availability.

Alaric Jackson has swelling in his knee, Braden Fiske has shoulder soreness, Kam Curl has back soreness.

Stafford has been hit 40 times so far this season, the third-most in the NFL according to TruMedia. Sixteen of those hits were sacks.

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
Rams injury updates from Sean McVay, who says none of these are expected to impact those players’ post-bye week availability:

    Jordan Whittington – shoulder
Alaric Jackson – swelling in knee
    Braden Fiske – sore shoulder
    Kam Curl – hip soreness
    Matthew Stafford – back soreness

Sean McVay said Week 7 against the Raiders would be “an ideal target” for Cooper Kupp’s return, but “by no means is that guaranteed.”

Said that was the “optimistic target date” from a few weeks ago.
