John Johnson says Quentin Lake is a player who’s stood out to him on defense and feels he’ll be “a big contributor” this year

On Ronnie Rivers. Since he stood out Saturday.

    Lance Zierlein
    NFL Analyst
    Overview
An undersized back with three-down ability, Rivers is reliable and incredibly consistent. He runs with wiggle and does a nice job of finding efficient rush tracks early in the carry. However, his lack of size and leg drive could limit his success as an inside runner, while the lack of high-end burst could make him an average outside runner. Rivers won’t stand out in any particular area, but the sum of his parts gives him a shot to become a backup.
    Strengths
    • Low center of gravity runner with a balanced base.
    • Able to readjust rush track versus early penetration in the backfield.
    • Sinks hips and makes wide jump-cuts around trouble.
    • Finds acceleration quickly after changing direction.
    • Capable worker in a crowded box.
    • Rarely allows feet to stagnate.
    • Lacks size but not toughness in pass protection.
    • Makes the first man miss after the catch.
    Weaknesses
    • Below-average size and frame.
    • Inconsistent manipulation of linebackers.
    • A shade indecisive when he’s missing a clear point of entry.
    • Below-average leg drive by NFL standards.
    • Missing a getaway gear and gets walked down by tacklers.
    • Smallish, short-armed target as a pass-catcher.

    That was nice.

Man. Cam Akers tried very hard to derail the Rams’ Super Bowl.

You guys know, I’ve been a fan since late in 1968.   First full season as ram fan was 69.

So, I’ve had… two good years.   Two rings.   In over 50 years.

    Ah well.

That’s not the way to look at it.

You’re suppsed to say, and in another 50 years they could have 2 more!

Cannot see how Hunter Long makes the roster with what Davis Allen did over the weekend. Matt LaFleur just mentioned in a presser that he has a legitimate “edge” to him and it’s been really nice to see him back out there. Hopefully, an eventual 1:1 replacement to Tyler Higbee.

They kept 4 in 2020, and Lafleur likes double TE sets. Now, with Long being injured, Rams can IR him early this season and safely keep him on the roster.

Derion Kendrick very, very excited to be back at practice as he slaps hands with teammates ahead of 11/11. He’s been energetic on the sidelines while out with the hamstring and now back in the mix. Today shaping up to be a very competitive session feeling energy all around.

Rams WR Cooper Kupp and DB Derion Kendrick both back at practice, as well as OL Joe Noteboom and OL Rob Havenstein. No sign of OL Logan Bruss, whom McVay said is day-to-day with a lateral ankle sprain.

The Rams’ pass-rush numbers have been terrible this preseason, getting very little production from their outside linebackers.

The Rams have one (1) edge rusher with more than one pressure this preseason: Keir Thomas (5)

In fact, only two other edge rushers have a single pressure: Daniel Hardy and Nick Hampton, who have one each

Earnest Brown IV and Jonah Williams each have two pressures. Bobby Brown, Desjuan Johnson, Tanner Ingle, Kobie Turner, Larrell Murchison and Marquise Copeland all have one each.

None from Byron Young (9 pass-rush snaps) or Michael Heocht (16 pass-rush snaps).

Unofficial record-keeping here but Quentin Lake 100% leading the Rams in PBUs this last month, whether at safety or dime LB.
    .
Ahkello Witherspoon DNP (groin, precaution) Hunter Long still DNP McVay hoping he can get back on the field before Sept 12. Havenstein DNP precaution for neck. Noteboom only did individuals.

Kicking coach Jimmy Rafter is in the crowd today timing punts (and teaching me a lot). He calls what Ethan Evans is doing to the ball right now “superhero type stuff”.

Only one punter in the NFL has a higher PFF grade than Rams rookie Ethan Evans this preseason: Corey Bojorquez Evans has hit some booming punts and while the hangtime could be better, the kid has some serious power

Sean McVay: “I was really pleased with the overall etiquete of the practice.” Stafford added that Broncos defensive lineman didn’t get too close, and were almost apologetic when they did. Smooth, efficient day 1 of joint practice.

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
Sean McVay said OL Joe Noteboom got some work in during individual drills in today’s joint practice with Broncos, but they’ll continue to be smart and err on the side of caution with him. OL Rob Havenstein not practicing was also team erring on side of caution, per McVay.

We are done with day one of #broncos and #rams joint practice. One small scuffle early, but overall a competitive productive day. Overall opinion, LA won the day.
A few notes on #broncos and #rams joint practice:
    – Stafford was locked in from start to finish. Including a fade to the corner for a TD in 2-min to end practice.
    – Cooper Kupp vs Patrick Surtain was fun to watch. Kupp had a great day overall. Still one of the very best in the league. Lined up everywhere and caught a bunch of balls.
    – Broncos WRs struggled with drops. Payton said after practice, you’re paid to catch passes. Pretty simple.
    – TE Albert O has had some solid practices of late. Flashed today with the 2nd team offense on several occasions.
