.@SandoNFL has been saying for years that Russ wanting to cook was never in Russell Wilson’s best interest, and that the vision Pete Carroll had for him was actually much closer to the optimal way to get the best version of Wilson.

Heading into ‘20 it looked like RW was ready to handle more … but yes, a common theme has been that even at his best he was a different type of Tier 1 QB because of his height. It’s still strange to see this type of fall but also true that Carroll was criticized unfairly.

Derek Carr’s benching suggests the Raiders will free up $29.25M of 2023 salary cap space by parting ways with him. If a trade can’t be agreed upon before the 3rd day of 2023 waiver period (2/15) when Carr’s $32.9M 2023 base salary & $7.5M of 2024 are fully GTD, he’ll be released.

This doesn’t necessarily mean the end for Carr. If Carr gets hurt in the final 2 games, his contract is guaranteed next year. This gives the Raiders options next season but not a great look as it signals that they are unsure of him.

The Rams, like every other team in the NFL, had a shot at Tariq Woolen into the 5th round. Yes, he does have ultra-rare closing speed. As in, a 4.26 forty. And, perhaps even more remarkable for someone a shade over 6’4″, a 1.47 10-yard split. Plus NBA-level hops, etc.

Also not sure why he gets compared with Richard Sherman so often, on size/speed grounds, cuz Sherman wasn’t as tall or as fast. An excellent player, but not as big or as athletic as Woolen. Woolen is basically a unicorn.

Love Lazard’s reaction to his own crazy play, and the play itself. He must have watched Woods and Kupp block.

an NFL exec told me a year ago — there’s more gifted pass catchers than ever before, and just not enough guys to cover em. Give coaches a month to scheme and it can become a track meet.

The #49ers’ 10-point comeback in the second half today was the second time in Kyle Shanahan’s tenure they’ve overcome a double-digit second-half deficit.

They’re now 2-33 in such situations.
