I was disappointed when B Staley left for the Chargers.  I thought the Rams D would take a dip.  I wasnt sure how much of a dip, but I was hoping the next DC could keep them in the top 8 or so.

I absolutely ‘hated’ the fact that R.Morris had to ‘learn’ the Staley system,

since the Rams were keeping the old system.    I thought McVay was an idiot for not hiring from within.  Someone who already knew the system.

And i was disappointed in RM at points during the season.    But at this point one has to say, McVay made the right choice, I would think.  RM has orchestrated a defense that is super-bowl quality.

I hope the D shines in the super bowl, if for no other reason than

maybe one of the racist-owners will break down and hire RM as

    a head coach.

    Time to repost this.

These are just facts. I have a mixed reaction to Morris. But facts are facts.

Here I compare some Rams defensive avgerages from the 3 playoff games to regular season rankings for all 32 teams. So if the Rams defense played the whole regular season the way they played in the postseason, where would they rank?

    Avg. points per game: 18.3

    Would rank: tied for 1st

    Avg. yards per game: 254

    Would rank: 1st

    Yards rushing per game: 52

    Would rank: 1st

Avg. yards a carry rushing: 3.11

    Would rank: 1st

    Yards passing per game:  233

    Would rank: 19th

    Yards per pass play: 5.9

    Would rank: 6th

    INTs, avg. per game: 1.33

    Would rank: 3rd

Unless memory doesn’t serve, Staley’s defense started off slowly too. Took a few weeks before it was really clicking. Same with RM’s. And he inherited more player turnover, I think.

Hope he gets a shot at HC.

And, my mercenary self has another reason for wanting this, aside from social justice issues. The Rams get much needed draft picks when minority coaches make that leap. It’s a classic win/win.

Now, what I’m not so sure of, is if it’s just any promotion, or if it has to be to HC or GM. As in, if the Rams lose their excellent DB coach, which is likely, and he becomes a DC, it’s a promotion. But I’m thinking the Rams don’t get a draft pick for that. It’s not a big enough move, apparently, under the rules, etc.

    ???

Regardless, that’s a good way to build up that pipeline. Moving up the chain, etc.

i think morris did a good job. not great.

but then look at what staley did in san diego. they did nothing on defense.

a lot of moving parts during the season. difficult to mold them into one unit. and then you not only have to replace both of your starting safeties, but you pick up a guy who hadn’t played for two years.

it was a good season for him.
