    The Top of the List:

    Robinson, McVay: 4
    Martz, Vermeil, Knox, Malavasi: 3

    Is that unbelievable, or what?

Sean McVay, with FOUR playoff wins, is tied for the All-Time lead for Rams coaches.

    I just cannot believe that.

I think the Rams must stink a lot more than I think.

Vermeil quit… things might have been different.

    Sean McVay 4-3
    John Robinson 4-6
    Martz 3-4
    Vermeil 3-0
    DV 3-4 in Philly
    DV 0-1 in KC
    Malavasi 3-3
Knox 3-5 (CK 3-4 in Seattle, 1-2 in Buffalo)

Bill Belichick… 30-11 in NE, 1-1 in Cleveland
    Bill Walsh 10-4
Bruce Arians 4-0 in Tampa (1-2 in AZ)

    Kyle Shanahan 2-1
    Matt Lafeur 2-2

For sure Vermeil would top that list if he had stayed.

The surprise for me is Knox. I would have guessed he had won more than 3. The Rams won the division 7 times in a row in the 70s. And Knox won only 3 games?

Malavasi was head coach for the 7th championship in that streak.

Knox was HC for 6 of those seasons. He made the playoffs each season and never made it to the Super Bowl, so he would have to have 6 losses. So how can he be 3-5?

The NFL finally acknowledged that Tom Mack never moved, so that game was stricken from the record.

Also, he left after the 77 season and Malavasi coached in 78, beating the Vikings in the playoffs before losing to Dallas. That’s where he got his first of 3 wins. Malavasi coached the final 2 of those seasons, not just the Super Bowl year.

George Allen? Zero playoff wins with the Rams? Damn.

    Hadn’t thought about that.

But he’s 4th on the all-time wins list. Behind John Robinson, Chuck Knox and Mike Martz.

tough to win and compete in playoff games prior to 1970 merger…

1969 and prior only 4 of the 16 NFL teams (25%) made the post season, thus only conference championships and title games were played….. Only 2 weeks of playoff football back then

Now, 14 teams make the playoffs in the NFL……7 of 16 teams (43%) in each conference resulting in over 4 weeks for playoff games.

1970 merger…. 30% of teams made the playoffs
1976 28% of teams made playoffs when the league expanded to Tampa and Seattle
2 wildcard teams added in 1978
when divisions and expansion happened, even more WC teams and division winners were added.

I think George Allen and Roman Gabriel could’ve won some playoff games in a diluted playoff scenario like today…. but it still took Stafford 13 seasons to do it when almost half the league makes the playoffs….

Sean McVay is now 5-3 in the playoffs, making him the all-time leader in playoff wins in Rams’ history going into the NFC Championship this weekend.

I still just find that hard to believe.

FWIW, Mike Florio thinks McVay will retire if he wins the Super Bowl this year.

As competitive as McVay is, that would surprise me.   DV always seemed to miss it when he left after his burnouts.

I would think McVay would wanna go for the Hall of Fame

should he win that first one.

I would be shocked if McVay retired.

Right after getting his QB? And winning?

    I don’t think so.
