Rams receiver Robert Woods tore his ACL in practice yesterday, two sources confirm ESPN report. Awful news for the veteran leader and team captain.

Robert Woods’ injury happened at Friday’s practice. He ran a jet sweep on air. Planted his foot and felt something awry. There was hope last night it wasn’t as serious as feared. Alas, it’s a torn ACL.

The Rams’ offense runs through Woods and Kupp, not just as pass-catchers but as blockers, motion players, sell/targets on high/low combos and so much more. Detail work he put in to onboard Stafford was next-level. And Woods is a team captain for good reason. Feel awful for him.

This is why DeSean Jackson’s vision seems so short-sighted now. He would’ve been the WR2/WR3 on a top-2 offense had he not asked to leave.

Now, just a few weeks later, it’s Cooper Kupp/Vanchii/OBJ.

Kupp is going to break the single-season receiving record, isn’t he?

I have to change my mind. I* am really glad we signed OBJ. You blew it, DeSean.

Does anyone else think the Rams seem to be getting hit inordinately by the injury bug these days? It’s been a wave, and a lot of them seem to be “non-contact.”

I hope coaches and staff are looking into practice methods, training room, etc. etc.

Seems like far more people being lost for the season than usual.

And, yeah, this makes the OBJ signing the stuff of genius. I also think the Rams should rethink the idea of four-wide sets now.

Stick with Kupp, OBJ, Jefferson, and perhaps two tight ends, if they go empty backfield. Or, go six o-line guys, one TE, etc. They can’t forget to protect Stafford. If he gets hurt, the Rams “all in” is for naught.

Have been working on a feature about Robert Woods, his role on the Rams, an invitation to Snoop Dogg’s 50th, & becoming a new Dad. Also among topics: His uncanny ability to stay healthy. Devastating news for a player who many teammates past and present describe as very unselfish.

well. it’s on obj now. wow. what a loss. makes me sick.

but i gotta trust what ramsey and miller say about obj. if they have respect for him, that says a lot to me. and now he’s got a chance to play in a dynamic offense. with a good qb. and with good players around him. i’ll be cheering him on. and i’m sure robert woods will be right there cheering him on the hardest. i’m sure robert will be in meetings, in film sessions… prepping odell and coop and van and all those receivers to be their best. they may lose him on the field, but his presence will be there.

The thing that many aren’t talking about is losing Robert Woods as a receiver is terrible, yes, but losing his blocking ability is even worse. He’s probably the best downfield blocker in the NFL. I pray OBJ has the ability to pick up some of that.

I’ve thought about this a lot, and the only thing acceptable to me now is that each Rams’ opponent, and every playoff-bound team, must suffer two major injuries between now and the time the Rams play them. It’s only right.
