While the Rams did win yesterday, and they won BIG, it is nice to see McVay and the players not satisfied. Easy to look at a 38-11 win and say you didn’t do very much wrong. Not the case. This team is looking to get even better.

    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/lists/rams-giants-week-6-takeaways-learned-win/?taid=616d81af0fbc4500016b0bfa&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter

Okoronkwo and Lewis are stepping up big

Losing Justin Hollins for 8-10 weeks was a major blow to the defense. However, Ogbonnia Okoronkwo and Terrell Lewis have stepped up opposite Leonard Floyd. They each had a sack against the Giants, with Okoronkwo forcing a fumble that Floyd recovered and helped set up a touchdown by the offense.

Without Lewis and Okoronkwo, the defense wouldn’t be playing as well as it has been. In the last two weeks, they’ve only allowed 28 points, a better trend than the previous three weeks.

Dont’e Deayon was targeted 12 (!!!!) times yesterday but had a great game (@PFF).

    – 37 yards allowed
    – 56.6 passer rating allowed
    – 0.71 yards per coverage snap allowed

The passing game wouldn’t be able to function nearly as well without the OL’s performance. According to
@PFF, neither Andrew Whitworth nor Rob Havenstein gave up a single pressure. Completely blanked.

Taylor Rapp was targeted four times in coverage (@PFF), gave up zero catches, and had two INT’s. Was probably the best game of his NFL career so far.

Gaines actually played well the past several weeks and has gotten better going forward.

He was the one who led that defensive surge on the early and critical 4th down stop. The guy is an immovable object when he anchors in. By far our toughest DL when it comes to fighting double teams and holding position.

    Also he has gotten pressures.

The guy is a solid NT starter, one of the stories that has been sort of lost or missed thus far. I’m really happy with his development.

    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2021/10/18/rams-sean-mcvay-halftime-record-bill-belichick/

Following Sunday’s blowout victory over the New York Giants, McVay is now 41-0 when the Rams lead at halftime…. Belichick once had 42 consecutive wins when leading at halftime with the New England Patriots, which is the current record.

Johnny Mundt and Jake Funk are both out for the year, per Sean McVay.

Mundt torn an ACL. Funk tore a hamstring.

If Deayon getting 46 more snaps on defense than David Long DAYS after coming off the practice squad doesn’t tell you David Long’s future on the team, I’m not sure what does…

After how he played yesterday, Deayon shouldn’t see the PS again this year.

Fun Fact: If Matthew Stafford never threw another pass for the Rams, he’d have the highest QB passer rating in franchise history.

Michael Brockers said Aaron Donald works like an undrafted free agent. Spends more time in the film room and weight room than anyone on the roster. Brockers said it still motivates him on a daily basis and has made him a better player and a better leader.

Sean McVay speaks about how Matthew Stafford is capable of making off-schedule plays for the Rams, something Jared Goff struggled with.

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Sean McVay said he does have some regrets over the way the Goff/Stafford trade was handled on his end.
“I wish there was better, (clearer) communication. You don’t want to catch guys off guard.” Adds,

“I would do it differently if those situations were to arise in the future.”

Rams are the only team in the Super Bowl era to have five or fewer turnovers (5), five or fewer sacks allowed (4), and fewer than 20 penalties (17) over the first five games of a season.

Sebastian Joseph-Day has 33 total tackles through the first 6 games…So errrr he’s on pace for roughly 85-95 tackles from the Interior Lineman position… Just letting you know how outrageous that is. Perhaps a record pace for a DT?
