Lee served in various roles during the Second World War, mainly as an RAF Intelligence officer on the ground during the North African campaign, where he was attached to both Popski’s Private Army and the SAS, routinely operating behind enemy lines. He also served as an officer with the equally legendary Gurkha regiment throughout the Battle of Monte Cassino

    ..

One time, Lee and a director flew into Prague to film a generic monster movie; upon landing the director noticed a military guard of honour and said: “I wonder who that’s for?”

Lee replied: “My dear boy, it’s for me. I was involved in the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich”

    He also corrected Peter Jackson.

They were filming a scene where Lee as Saruman gets stabbed in the back by Grima Wormtongue and he’d directed Lee to make a certain sound.

Lee responded: that’s not the sound a man makes when he’s been stabbed in the back.” He then proceeded to demonstrate what it does sound like.

Peter Jackson was spooked because of the absolute authority Lee dispensed the information.

“Okay, Mr. Lee. You know what you’re doing” and they filmed it using Lee’s knowledge of what it sounded like.

    Good to see ya Mack.

And also, Lee was in intel because, among other things, he knew 8 languages.

He was also an on-ground intel officer for a Gurkha unit in Italy. As some may know, the Gurkhas were one of the fiercest fighters on the planet. He served with them during the Battle of Monte Cassino, which was one of the hardest fought encounters in the war.

For those who don’t know, the assassination of Heydrich, the Butcher of Prague, was a big deal. Apparently Lee helped plan it.
