it seems that more than a few don’t realize just how dominating the bears pass defense has been dating back to 2019, or that the bears defense led the league in just about every meaningful pass defense category heading into last night’s game…. in short, i think a lot of folks are shortchanging goff’s night against the bears, the guy delivered, in fact it was the second best qb outing against the bears defense dating back to last season, i.e. in the bears last 23 games, second only to mahomes… moreover the 24 offensive points the rams hung on the bears last night (which could have been more had they not taken their foot off the gas in the 4th quarter), was the 4th most offensive points the bears have allowed since last year.

But what makes Goff special in my opinion is what de does really well. The Rams run more play action than any other team, which means Goff has to turn his back on the defense on pretty much every play. People take that for granted, but many, many QBs simply cannot turn their backs on the defense and then turn around, decipher the defense, and make quick decisions and accurate throws. Goff makes this seem so easy and routine, but most QBs really can’t do this at the level we are accustomed to.

The Rams also ask Goff to throw into the middle of the defense more than any team I watch, and into tight windows. The Rams’ offense relies on this feature. If you throw into the middle of the defense, you are going to also have tips, picks, and close calls. It’s part of the deal. I saw Mahomes throw into the middle of the field against the Raiders two weeks ago and threw a horrible pick that cost the Chiefs their comeback.

Brady had worse stats than Goff two weeks ago in his LOSS to the Bears. It’s ok to be critical of Goff, but its unfair to not recognize his skills and his importance to this offense.

This is Goff’s first year with this level of control over the offense. Prior to this, he was McVay’s puppet doing whatever his earpiece told him to do. Now he has more control and has a much longer leash. He’s still a work in progress learning to read defenses. But when you put his play into that context, Jared is doing very well and will only get better with experience.

Goff is a true franchise QB in every sense of the word. Snead chose right between Goff and Wentz. Goff continues to validate the Ram’s choice and is every bit of a franchise QB. This has allowed the FO to build a complete team around him on both sides of the ball. Everything points to Goff becoming a complete QB and having a very long and successful career.

Andrew Whitworth says this is one of the most brutal schedules he’s played in his 15 seasons regarding the East Coast travel that’s been surrounded with big-time prime time matchups.

Whitworth suggests they send flowers to whoever they made mad in the scheduling office.

Whitworth has been around a long, long time but said that this year’s Rams travel schedule has been the most brutal in his memory considering trip-to-game-to-recovery process.

Rams DT Aaron Donald, on the concept of facing a rookie quarterback in his first NFL start as the Rams will in Tua on Sunday: “He’s still a quarterback in the National Football League.”

Regarding facing a left-handed QB, on Monday Sean McVay mentioned that really the only thing that changes is the spin on the ball so not really a factor for Rams; however they may drill DBs a little with the jugs machine on “left” as they would with a lefty punter so that they

can eyeball as they work to make plays on the ball. Today Aaron Donald mentioned that Tua may prefer to flush left so they want to be ready for that and will also drill opposite-side strips
