This remains an area that has to improve.
I kept hearing the announcers during the last game say that Rivera told them, they have to get the Rams in 3rd and long. Sounds like this is something other teams know about.
Against Washington, they were in 3rd and 5 or more 6 times (though one was cancelled by a DPI…I’m going to count it anyway).
On 6 3rd and long plays, they had 2 conversions, 2 incompletes, 1 that was short (but on that one they weren’t even trying), and 1 INT.
I don’t know the league average for conversions on 3rd and long.
The main concern though is the negative plays.
So far this season now they have been in 3rd and long 28 times, with 9 conversions (32%), and 7 negative plays (sacks & INTs) (25%).
So I don’t know how 32% conversions stands as a stat, for all I know it’s average or better. But 25% negative plays can’t be good, to understate it a bit. Just guesstimating but I assume that’s pretty high.
The optimistic take is that this OL as a unit did not have OTAs, a full camp, and pre-season to get ready and on this one thing they lag a bit.
