One note I found interesting from “The Coach McVay Show” on ESPN LA was Sean McVay’s analysis of back-to-back red zone screen calls. He says he’s not worried about predictability; adds that he just wanted to “take the points” (FG) and those were low-risk plays. He admitted thecalls were conservative, but added that he’s OK with that because “it was more about, ‘let’s not turn the ball over or go backwards at all, we’ll take the three…little bit more of a conservative approach in both situations, but sometimes those are decisions we have to make.”

I don’t have the #’s on how many times Jalen Ramsey lined up in the nickel in Week 4, but it was very often. I wonder if that was a matchup thing or if McVay/Staley want Troy Hill outside.Coincidentally, Troy Hill played a very good game on the boundary Thinking face

41 snapsOctober 7, 2020 at 2:40 am #122566znModeratorGoff didn’t get his feet fully set which is what caused the inaccurate pass imo. If Brown was blocking I don’t think Goff would have been as off balance. Not a bad block from Hendo, but Malc definitely stronger in pass pro https://t.co/bUkA2kBVDW

Sources: The Washington Football Team is making a QB change. Kyle Allen will get the start vs. the #Rams, while former starter Dwayne Haskins goes to the bench.Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Rams fans – covered him in CAR – likes to go vertical, they gave him a lot of simple outlets and had big time turnover issues especially under pressure.Bucky Brooks@BuckyBrooks
I tried to tell folks early in the off-season that Kyle Allen would be in play as a starter for
@WashingtonNFL. The OC LOVES him and believes that he is an A-level QB. It was only a matter of time before they pulled the plug on No.7 regardless of the circumstancesYou will hear scuttlebutt about Haskins’ IQ, work ethic and poor play but make no mistake about it.. Allen is a teacher’s pet and he was going to get an opportunity to start for WFT at some point this year. It took 5 weeks but here we are..

This (linked below) is a good game breakdown. WV would be especially sympatico with this because the analyst draws attention to the NYG defense, which he says matches up well with the Rams.

The Rams switched things up on Sunday, putting Jalen Ramsey in the slot for 44 of his 66 total snaps. He also blitzed 5 times after not doing so once in Weeks 1-3.1 catch for 10 yards on 4 targets.

Rams HC Sean McVay says OL Bobby Evans (shoulder), LB Kenny Young (knee) and Micah Kiser (groin/pec) will not practice today. Andrew Whitworth and Aaron Donald will have veteran rest days.McVay also said they’ll see how the next two days go before possibly activating OLB Terrell Lewis to the 53-man roster.

Brandon Staley said in this piece that in his defense, the strong safety is moreso a linebacker. In the case of John Johnson, that means – as Staley confirmed today – never leaves the field and is the mic’d signal-caller who is in the headset with Staley.October 7, 2020 at 8:19 pm #122611znModerator.@thereal_cam3 back at it 💪 pic.twitter.com/CAlct5dxHD

why did mcvay choose to attack a team with a bad pass defense, a team that can’t score, by running the ball and throwing short all day? a strategy that was bound to result in a close game?
seems apparent that mcvay simply does not trust his pass pro at this point, and has schemed accordingly, has done everything possible through the first 4 games to put his oline in a position to succeed on passing plays, by running a bunch to set up play-action, by throwing short a bunch, by rolling out, moving the pocket, bootlegging, and throwing screens.
but at some point, i would think, the rams are going to have to show that they can move the ball vertically, consistently, which will require the oline to hold their blocks longer – they flashed this capability in the second half against the bills, it would be nice to see them build on it.

after rewatching the game:
Floyd’s overall game really is excellent. Several pressures and a sack called back due to Hill’s penalty. Floyds ability to chip the back or TE coming into his zone and then rush the passer is text book perfect. He has grown on me and I would say his overall game is very positive to our defense. He plays smart and in this game made several positive plays.

this is how it looks when you have a good OL
They had trouble blowing the Giants’ DL off the ball but the difference is there weren’t opposing defensive players camping out in our backfield. The penetration problems the line was plagued with last season are gone for the most part.
I give the Giants’ front a lot of cred too. Their NT is excellent. They came to play, were well prepared by the staff to snuff out screens and the run game.

from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2020/10/08/rams-goff-mcvay-brady-belichick-comparison/
Ron Rivera has been impressed by the Rams’ duo, likening Goff and McVay to the great tandem of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
“As soon as those two guys get together, I mean, who knows? You could have a relationship there, like they have in New Orleans between Sean Payton and Drew Bree,” Rivera said Wednesday, before continuing on. “That’s the kind of relationship you could see. I mean, a young guy developing with another young coach and those two could be there together for 10, 15 years and you can have a dynamic duo. That’s what they have in New Orleans. I mean, it’s as good a duo as a quarterback and head coach that I’ve seen since Belichick and Brady.”
