    As part of Eric Weddle’s pending announced retirement, the Rams not only would get back all $4.75 million of his 2020 salary-cap hit but also $500,000 in credit from 2019. That’s pretty significant.

    probably best case scenario possible.

    i liked weddle. but if there was any position where the rams could afford to lose a starter it’d be one of the safety positions. and they actually gain cap space from this.

    I think he might have stayed one year too long. But I don’t hate him.

That would leave the Rams with only 2019 seventh-round pick Nick Scott and 2019 undrafted free agent Jake Gervase as backup safeties. Also, Johnson is set to enter the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, so the Rams likely will have to address that soon.
