Jalen Ramsey: Aaron Donald is ‘the best player in the NFL,’ I’m the best CB

Jalen Ramsey is a confident player, always wearing his emotions on his sleeve. That applies on the field and off it, as was the case during Sunday’s win over the Falcons and before Ramsey even suited up for the Rams.

He said in the immediate aftermath of the trade to Los Angeles that he wants to show the Rams they got “the best corner in the whole NFL for years and years to come.” That’s a title he’s been in the conversation for in recent years, too, so it’s not a case of him patting his own back.

As confident as Ramsey is in himself, he’s also willing to praise other players where he sees fit. That’s why he called Aaron Donald – his new teammate in L.A. – the best player in football.

“I get to play with the best football player in the NFL, Aaron Donald. Me personally, I’m biased because I’m a defensive guy, but he’s the best player in the NFL, in my opinion,” Ramsey said in a conversation with Ryan Clark. “And I believe I’m the best corner in the NFL, so you combine two guys like that – and you got Eric Weddle, who is super smart and going to help me out, going to elevate my game and hopefully I can help him and elevate his game, as well – and then I get to reunite with Dante, who I know is going to rush the passer.”

The tandem of Ramsey covering opposing No. 1 receivers and Donald rushing the passer is enough to give opposing offensive coordinators nightmares. That doesn’t account for Fowler off the edge, Weddle in the middle of the secondary, and Aqib Talib on the other side once he gets healthy.

There are no easy matchups to be had when facing the Rams defense, which is why the front office and coaching staff are so excited to have Ramsey on the roster.

they’re forgetting matthews too who was on track to have the best season in terms of sacks of his career. his entire freaking career. so you got matthews and fowler coming at quarterbacks from opposite sides. you got the best player in the nfl wreaking havoc from the defensive line and a lockdown corner who can handle the other team’s best receiver almost by himself. they also have possibly one of the better trio of safeties in the league.

so it will be interesting to see IF it all comes together. which it hasn’t. yet.

i can only hope that kromer and the oline keep grinding away. kromer said before the season began that the oline would be a work in progress the entire season. hopefully, the rams can sneak into the playoffs, and the rebuilt oline is firing on all cylinders by the end of the season.
