The Rams announced today that second-year linebacker Micah Kiser is out indefinitely after sustaining a left pectoral injury in Saturday night’s 14-10 preseason loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Hawaii. The injury will require surgery, which is scheduled to take place Tuesday.

A fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Kiser collected four total tackles while playing in all 16 games during his rookie season. He was slated to start at the other inside linebacker spot opposite Corey Littleton based on the team’s unofficial depth chart released earlier this month.

Sean McVay told reporters today that, in the event of a long-term injury to Kiser, veteran Bryce Hager would step into the MLB role in the Rams’ base 4-3 defense. Hager is one of the few vets who have been with the team since before it moved from St. Louis in 2016.

Second-year LB Travin Howard and rookie Dakota Allen, who the Rams have drafted the last two seasons, also move up the depth chart. “We’ve got some good guys that have shown that they can play football,” McVay said.
