Luke Kuechly on Aaron Donald: “You don’t get 20 sacks on accident. He’s kind of everything you want in a lineman. He’s just disruptive. He’s disruptive in the run game. He’s disruptive in the pass game.”Joe Curley@vcsjoecurley
Joey Bosa on Aaron Donald: “As an end, I can watch him and still learn. It’s just beautiful to watch.”==

Todd Gurley just now on NFL Network: Dante Fowler has been getting to the ball as fast as Aaron Donald. He’s here on a one year deal and we should probably bring him back for more.Vincent Bonsignore@VinnyBonsignore
#Rams 1st team defensive front: Joseph-Day, Fowler, Matthews, Brockers, DonaldI think right now, just based on what I’ve seen, Joesph-Day is playing better than Greg Gaines.
Nearly a full practice in with #Rams and #Chargers here in Costa Mesa, and the focus has remained entirely on work. No skirmishes or fisticuffs. Sean McVay and Anthony Lynn were pretty adamant they wanted that to be the case. Looks like the message was heard loud and clear
#Rams offense 7 on 7 Red Zone (12 yard line) drill against #Chargers: four plays four TD passes from Jared Goff to Higbee, Gurley, Reynolds, Cooks

Sean McVay said Brandin Cooks’ hamstring “got a little bit tight” during practice, so the Rams pulled him out as a precaution.August 1, 2019 at 9:49 pm #103544znModerator“I thought overall, going against a front of that caliber, I thought that they did a nice job today.”
— HC Sean McVayMcVay liked what he saw from the Rams’ offensive line on Thursday.
The Chargers finished with 38 sacks last season, led by defensive end Melvin Ingram (7.0) and defensive end Joey Bosa (5.5). Bosa was injured for much of the season, however, playing just seven games.
Left tackle Andrew Whitworth displayed his skill on the practice field, particularly on a red zone play where he neutralized Bosa in the backfield to give Goff time to find tight end Gerald Everett for a touchdown.August 1, 2019 at 9:58 pm #103545znModeratormax
SIRIUS VISITS RAMS
Bill Polian on SiriusXM just now
they had Jack Youngblood on for a few minutes and talked about some fun stuff when he played and then the current SB and Jack said as he was watching the game it looked like we were in over our heads, just not ready for the big stage. Jack said “oh, no, we aren’t ready for this”. Polian said he totally agreed especially on offense and that it was so tough to face the Pats for the first time in on that stage. Very understandable and McVay will learn from it.
Just remember the Youngblood story. He said in the late 70’s he wanted to go back home to Florida and get back to his roots, and he had a sit down with CR. He said, boss I would like to be traded to Tampa. And CR paused and looked sternly at Jack and said, Tampa doesn’t have anything I want. And that was the end of the meeting. Jack got up and left.

Jim Trotter@JimTrotter_NFL
Saints‘ Sean Payton on lack of head-coaching diversity: “We don’t have to see the numbers to know we took a step backward in the last hiring cycle — and that has nothing to do with anyone who was hired. It’s just the fact that, man, look at the pictures.”Tony Dungy on the lack of diversity among NFL head coaches and general managers: “My suggestion would be to have all these owners take a class in how to hire people, and just talk about the basics.”
Dungy: “The biggest problem is, people making decisions, many times, don’t know what they’re looking for or how to find it.”
Dungy: “Then it becomes easy to stay with what’s trendy, because there are enough good, trendy candidates that you’ll never run out. But that doesn’t always allow you to find the diamonds in the rough.”
Dungy: “Then it becomes a matter of, ‘If I go with what’s popular, or what everybody else says is good, at least I’ll feel good about it and people won’t be able to second-guess me.’”
Part of Dungy’s feelings stem from the following: According to NFL research, 113 head coaches have been fired since the start of the 2000 season. Of them, 60 were fired after 3 or fewer seasons, 32 after 2 or fewer, and 11 after 1 season.

I think right now, just based on what I’ve seen, Joesph-Day is playing better than Greg Gaines.Taylor Rapp got a lot of work today with the #Rams 2-deep defense & figured into some 1st-team defensive packages. He has presence about him, & at least at the times I focused on him he was exactly where he was needed to be in run fit/man or zone coverage.
I can see the #Rams being a better overall team than last year – especially by the end of the season – yet not equal to the 13-win regular-season total. It’s a fine line, but I think the long-play is very much a focus this year.
