My Hard Drive arrived

Postby Agamemnon » Jun 05, 2012 12:15 pm

I am going to wait for a nice window and then start my adventure with Microsoft. I have to see if their license agreement will let me replace my failing Hard Drive on my old computer, without excitement. It should be straight forward. I should have all the info I need.

Microsoft used to only look at the Motherboard, but sometime in the past they changed. They now look at the configuration of your Computer. I have read that that can be a problem. I am hoping my computer is old enough that it didn't get the change.

One of my buddies from the Mothership says he might have a work around if I need it.

OK, I have physically replaced my Hard Drive. that was like a monkey puzzle......

I had to choose a boot device. I had 2 choices. I was very careful. I picked the wrong one. I mean it is 50 - 50.

OK, booted it again. Now, it wanted me to connect my external Hard Drive. Ok, did that, booted again. It still asked for me AGAIN to connect my external Hard Drive, at the bottom of screen was an option to hit 'enter' and continue. I did that.

Then it asked me for load options, I picked Windows.

Windows is loading files............................... ( so far, so good. lol )

Oops, recycle. Maybe this time it works?

Stuck, taking break. ;)

I am on the Moors and the Hound of the Baskervilles is howling.

OK, I will just put Linux on the old computer.

Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.
This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive or

Status: Oxc00000e9

This was the error I was getting while trying to install Windows to my new hard drive. So, I put my old hard drive back in. I can't even do a Factory Restore now, because of that error...........

This is something new. gahhhhhhhhhh..........

So, basically, I can't even get to installing the New hard drive.

OK, Plan B "Format C;/" LOL I would do that if I thought it would help. I looked up "error: oxc000000e9" that is some error. I would rather have a virus...........

It seems it might even be something just to do with Windows. I will be checking out a Linux OS for the old computer.

Back to the hard drive. I am satisfied with my journey into the world of YouTube and videos, computer work on chess is on going, doing stuff at tms is on going.

Why a problem with a ?USB device would halt the process of installing windows on a replacement hard drive is beyond me. But, I will find out and do something. Maybe start disconnecting my USB connections on the mother board?

I recently did a restore to Factory Image on my failing hard drive. I can't do that now. The answer is out there somewhere.

When that is solved, I will go back to this, a project to make a boot drive out of a USB SSD drive.

This is turning into a Blog. On my way to replace my Hard Drive and reinstall Windows 7 OS,

I find other things that are interesting. Here is a link to a good tutorial on 'live streaming'.

Xsplit Streaming Tutorial

The video shows a cool tool in Windows 7.

It would be possible to stream some of the Rams' games. I am not saying I would do it. I would have a lot to
get done. It is an idea.

I updated my Bios. Bios says it has loaded all my stuff.

I have checked all my devices in Device Manager. They are all working properly with the latest drivers.

My boot manager is screwed up. I will look at that next. I need that for my repair disc to work. Maybe that will help?
Well, that is what it says. ;) It can't find memtest.exe. back to command prompt stuff, I guess?

Still looking for solution..............

I ran PC-Doctor. The only error was that my HD was failing. ERROR: BIOHD-7

HP Recovery Manager is running.

........................................

Factory image restore

check => Reformatting the Windows partition of your hard drive
.......=> Reinstalling original software

Progress 27% and counting
Estimated time remaining 12 minute(s)

Please wait...........

At least it is doing something. lol

I will not let it install any updates. Then I plan to put my new Hard Drive in and see if it will take this time.

Setup is preparing your computer for first use.

Stuff appears OK. I will try the new Hard Drive later.

I should see if it will let me make new 'Recovery Discs' and maybe some other stuff before I replace the Hard Drive.

I could try a beta of Windows 8? In fact I did, but it wanted to change some drivers and they didn't want to install. That was from before.

I am looking at Cloning my bad hard drive to my new hard drive and then putting the cloned hard drive in as my main hard drive. I am watching videos that describe the process.

I am looking at making a ssd drive as a bootable option.

Easeus Todo Backup Free

Good backup utilities that combine maximum user friendliness with excellent functionality and some helpful extras take the chore out of an essential duty. When all that comes for free, the excuse to blow off backups wears thin. Easeus Todo Backup is just such a free backup and restore utility. Like any good backup tool, it will back up your entire system's current state, data, settings and all, or just what you want it to, including partitions or full disks, and restore your computer in the event of a hard-disk crash or other calamity. Its Disk Cloning feature will help you migrate your operating system and data to a new hard disk when it's time to replace the old one. You can also use it to create bootable CD-ROMs using either Linux or the powerful Windows Pre-installation Environment (PE), which is a big improvement over MS-DOS.

Two things set Todo Backup apart from many other backup utilities (three things, if you count that it's free): its easy-to-use interface and its wizard-based operation. Colorful, large, clearly labeled buttons and icons make it easy for even new computer owners to use, a big plus because they need protection the most yet are usually inexperienced at securing it. The program walks users through its operations and explains each step with detailed instructions, augmented by a good Help file for further assistance.

Todo Backup is freeware and is certified for Windows 7. It downloads as a compressed file but extracts, installs, and opens without fuss.

I will have to buy an extra cable to do this.

OK. Maybe this is the way to go? Then I could use my new hard drive strictly for storage.

That gives me the cable and software I need. The software should make a usb drive a clone and bootable, too. I think? http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-SandForc ... ngston+SSD

Maybe make this the primary drive and use my SATA hd as storage?

Stuff to ponder, anyway.
