    if you have been with them for a couple of years, you should always ask for free stuff, not just Sunday Ticket. They have ratings on your account based on your payment history, length of time you have been there, services used etc.

    Yes call and ask for Sunday Ticket for free…..now a days they usually give it for free to encourage people to sign up, but this goes all year long. You can ask for new wireless receivers, upgrades, premium services like HBO. I also used to get charges removes or discounts ($20 off my bill for 6 months, etc.).

    DirecTv has room to play with your bill in order to entice you to keep using their service. I would call every 6 months like clock work to do this. I also do the same with Uverse now (just got free alarm for 1 year and upgraded my internet to fastest for free).

    The bad news is there are limit on these caps. They do make notes and while it is easy to get these things, you cant do so every few months or ask for the world.

    They have monetary caps…..in other words, if you get Sunday Ticket and a free HD wireless receiver, you may not get anything else for a year. If they take $10 off your bill for 6 months, you may get a lot of stuff later.

    When you get their upgrades, they extend your contract so make sure you know the length of time. Also, as has been said here before, each rep is different. Some will offer all sorts of stuff, others may not. If not, hang up and call another rep. You don’t always have to ask for retention, but going to retention, always works. Keep in mind, if you have extended your contract and reached the max upgrades (asked for a bunch of stuff in the past and maxed out) they won’t offer you more things for free.

    about 3 years ago got some guy that was totally polite: “yes sir, I will cancel you right away”. uh, thanks . . .’anything else we can do for you?” uh, no.

    had to call back later and get another person who agreed with me that a customer since 1995 should not have been treated like this etc .etc. and the free stuff starts rolling in. free ST, free upgrades, free packages.

    I always wondered if I got some guy on their first day because this never happened before or since.
