Tough loss. They showed a lot of good things though.

Need to clean a lot of stuff up. First time this year they lost a game they had a lead in so late. That makes this loss especially hard.

Another heart challenging stressfest next week.

I don’t feel so bad, long close game, lots of stuff happened.

Pissed off. The refs gave the Eagles this game.

The refs should have never flagged Tru for that taunting call. They let Trey Burton earlier in the game after he scored, the the ball at our defender when he was on the ground and called nothing, no flag. Also, getting an imaginary call on that field goal, that helped Philly.

Those are just a couple of things. We got screwed. I pray we meet them again in the playoffs.

    Well, gentlemen: that absolutely sucked.

A few things I want to get off my chest.

It was a great game between two very good teams. Someone had to lose.

I was disappointed in a couple of things.

The refs were a bit ridiculous. That call on Trumaine Johnson was a joke. That led to the Eagles getting a touchdown.

Other penalties were stupid. Like Ekubam diving into the player.

But honestly–the Rams D-line was held all day. It wasn’t a great ref crew.

The defense was just gassed at the end. I was surprised that Foles did not screw things up but he did just what he had to do. Credit to him.

The big disaster though. The thing that really cost the game was the Goff fumble. And that shows that he just isn’t quite THERE yet. He didn’t have that clock that sped things up when he was under that pressure. His awareness was a bit lacking. Hey–he did okay today. And honestly, some of the play calling seemed a bit goofy at times. Why go deep there at all? I get being aggressive but…anyway.

This team misses Robert Woods. He’s better for them than Watkins. There is no way Watkins is getting a big contract here. He can’t justify it.

Kupp was fantastic today. What a rising star.

I worry about the injuries and how much this game took out of the team as they go to face Seattle next week. That is probably the game that decides the division. In fact, if the Rams lose I’m pretty sure they won’t even make the playoffs. They are not getting that other wild card. That will be Saints/Falcons/Panthers.

They need more depth–particularly in the secondary–and they need better edge rushers. Quinn got there–it’s true–but his health is always a concern. They need a stud there.

    Hey–it is what it is.

Next week is a MUST win. Lose it and I think they miss the playoffs.

The defense was an undisciplined joke just pathetic. Not like they were outplayed by superior players. Stop the run in the first half , it’s freaking the 13th game get yer shit together already!I am thoroughly disgusted with these guys. Game 13 with the 2nd seed on the line and they go out and do this. They’re going nowhere if they do get in, which is far from a certainty with the Hags ready to snatch the division from the Rams next week.Chances like today don’t come around too often and when they have they end up squandered.

I agree next week is a MUST WIN.

I disagree on the TJ call; he CAN’T do that shit and allow the refs the option to throw that flag. I think we lost the game right there and then.

BTW, I blame Fisher and Williams for these lapses in control. You don’t see the Patriots D doing this type of crap (Gronk is another story).

So it was OK for Trey Burton to throw the football at our defender when he was on the ground, after Burton scored. There was no flag for that. I feel if you don’t flag that, then you shouldn’t flag the Trumaine taunting call. Just saying.

the defense needs work. part of it was injuries. but these slow starts by the defense bit them in the ass against a great offense.

and yeah. goff needed to do a better job taking care of the ball there.

but you know what? they did well.

they’ll learn from this. i think it was too much to expect them to be the best team in the nfl this year. they’re merely a very good team. with upside. another offseason, and maybe they’ll be ready.

as it is, i think the playoffs are still very much within reach. at the very least, they can get a wild card spot.

Wentz played a great. He was getting creamed yet still made plays. I’m surprised he lasted that long in that game.

    Refs had some bullshit calls.

Chris Long’s strip sack was huge, but losing Wentz is a problem for Philadelphia

Ill tell you one thing: McVay needs a much better 1 second left on the clock no time outs, 75 yards to get a touchdown play. That thing sucked.

I already had an incredible amount of respect for Carson Wentz. That just increased today. What a competitor. But if he’s going to be a running quarterback–these are the risks he will take.

my one criticism of mcvay. he did not give gurley the ball more. the rams were able to run the ball on the eagles d. i don’t know why they didn’t do it more. especially in the first half.

Wentz is a gamer Goff could be as well but needs more seasoning held the ball way to long. Imo his competing with Wentz hurt the team. He did some great stuff as well. To me that D is way over rated. We need 4 quarters of run D .

Who knows Jack but Trujo can’t effect that and he could have on the play he taunted on and saved his team some valuable time.

goff is young and raw. a lot of that can be overcome by experience and development.

and if you don’t believe me. i remember kobe before the lakers started winning all those championships. he was NOT clutch. he was the exact opposite of clutch. i think he drove his teammates mad because he’d just continue jacking up balls and bricking them in late game situations. he even cost them some important games. but with experience. with honing his skills. he eventually became insanely clutch.

that doesn’t guarantee goff anything. but the one thing i read about him is his demeanor. no matter what the play before, he’ll get back up and go after it. he just needs to refine his skills. he needs experience. and hopefully, it happens.

and not just goff. that goes for gurley, kupp, woods, watkins, and the rest of them. it never happens overnight.

If I had my wish, I want us to meet the Eagles again in January. Hopefully it happens. Granted it means playing in the Linc, but hopefully we will be better next time, should it somehow happen.

I thought Johnson’ penalty cost the game, basically. That was a “this team is young, and needs to learn how to win” kind of moment. The Rams should have won this game.

That last play was ridiculous. A screen to Gurley would have been better. Those plays NEVER work. Didn’t matter, though, because really nothing was going to work anyway.

I agree that the Eagles OL held pretty much all day long. There were complete takedowns. Worst officiated game by far this year, imo.

It all comes down to next week. We will see how the Rams respond. Hopefully Woods is back. And I agree with PA who said Woods is more valuable than Watkins. I just haven’t seen Watkins be a difference-maker. Both Woods and Kupp have mattered more, though Watkins didn’t have an offseason with the Rams. Still.

Tough loss. With Seattle’s loss, and Minnesota’s, the Rams had a chance to make a big move, and they didn’t do it.

They’ve lost to Foles and Keenum.

Without Wentz, the Eagles are not the Eagles. So, who is the clear favorite to win the NFC now? I would think ANY team that gets in the playoffs, could win the NFC now.

    Strange year.

i watched the second half of the game yesterday again. i had to step away for awhile. yeah. this defense needs work. i realize that this is the number one scoring offense they went up against, but they still need to do better. that’s even realizing that they lost webster early and trujo later. part of it was committing dumb penalties. although truth be told. that flag on trujo was bs.

still goff had a chance to put this game away in the fourth quarter. maybe he thought he had to make a play with the way the defense was playing. but he’s gotta be smarter with the ball. these things happen. i don’t think it was a matter of not being clutch. i just think he really badly wanted to make a play.

one thing about that int. a couple plays before goff showed great pocket presence i thought. spun away from a couple defenders. and instead of panicking, he stood strong and delivered a simple pass to gurley for a good gain. one problem. havenstein gets hurt on the play and guess what? williams, who replaced havenstein, gets beat by long for the strip sack.

it happens. goff needs more seasoning. i think we pretty much all realized that before the season started. this just emphasizes that. but what we’ve seen is really promising, no?

before the game we marveled at his ability to shrug bad plays off. and i still think that’s true. and that’s a good thing. that’s what all the clutch players do. cuz they make plenty of non-clutch plays. it’s their ability to shrug those bad plays off and still want the ball in their hands. just give him another offseason. give the receivers another offseason. they’ll be fine.

gurley really showed me something. he’s still third on my list of favorite running backs. but he really showed up yesterday. he keeps getting better. and he isn’t even close to reaching his potential yet. just love his playing style. i like the goff gurley backfield. i think that duo is definitely by second favorite backfield of all time.

in 99, that offense was all potential realized. it was composed of people who had a lot of professional football played under their belts. even warner toiled in the arena league and nfl europe before that season. holt was the lone rookie starter on that offense although there was hakim who was in his second year.

but this offense. you have a very very raw sophomore qb. i think we forget that a lot of times. as a rookie, he was about as raw a qb can be. he’s still only 23. he doesn’t even have a full 2 seasons under his belt. shoot he didn’t even have a full season under his belt entering this season. he’s switched offensive schemes once already. and you know what. he’s still played very well this season despite that. i’m not a laker fan. but i’ve tracked his career living in this area. you can’t help but not. i see shades of kobe in goff’s career. a lot of talent. but very green. he didn’t really take off until phil jackson became the lakers head coach. he had talent. he was fearless. but he lacked maturity. that’s what goff needs. he needs maturing.

then you got gurley who’s still only 23 years old in his third season. faulk was still playing for indianapolis at 23. he didn’t even reach his peak years until age 25 his fifth season in the league, when he was coupled with a way too mature for his age peyton manning in his rookie year. gurley won’t even reach his fifth season until 2019 when he’ll be 25 years old. that’s crazy. just need some luck. combined with lots of hard work. and that duo will be something else.

the receivers. there’s no one on this team that can compare to isaac bruce, but woods is a very dependable receiver. i think not having him available really hurt this game. but you know what? maybe just maybe. for the long-term. goff having to play these stretch of games without his number one receiver will actually help him. i don’t know. just babbling a little bit at this point. maybe a little delirious cuz i’m sick. kupp compares very easily to holt. rookies. mature rookies. but still rookies. kupp i expect to be much better next season. which is pretty crazy considering kupp has the chance to top 1000 yards this season especially if woods misses more games.

i guess my point is that as long as the offensive line holds up, and considering the ages of whitworth and sullivan that’s a little worrying, this offense is still full of potential even as well as they’ve played this year. that’s different from the 99 team which pretty much hit the ground running.

i agree too. in fact, i would not re-sign watkins. and believe me. i love watkins. i like his skill set. but woods is signed long-term. you got kupp cheap. and cooper and reynolds have shown flashes. on top of that, i think everett still could get better. i’d rather see them direct those resources to re-signing joyner, donald. maybe even trujo.

they need to shore up the defense. they need to have a plan to replace whit and sully. watkins is a luxury. and there’s too many other questions to focus resources toward re-signing him. it’s unfortunate. i was really hoping he’d light up the league this year.

Apparently I’m slow to adjust my expectations for this team. I obviously would have preferred a win, but I’m just so excited and still surprised that the Rams are not only playing meaningful football in December, but also leading the division. These types tough losses just don’t bother me all that much this year. It has nothing to do with me maturing or developing a balanced perspective on life either. Next year I’ll be adjusting my expectations accordingly. For now I’m just excited about the trajectory of Goff. I’m not encouraged by the up and down nature of the defense though. That said, yesterday they were playing against a good Philadelphia offense. I hope there’s a good plan for Russell Wilson.

It is nice venting about a meaningful loss in December after scoring 35 points. So frustrating because it was all right there with both the Vikes and Hags losing , we win we jump to 2nd seed. Carolina looking like they’re gonna be tough in the Wild card round next week at the Hags is for the division basically.

Blinkscout Game 13 review … Eagles

This one took me a few days … getting over the reffing was not easy for me.

Again, a good learning experience … though I’d like to see us have some more focus at the end of the game. It seemed like we actually lost more focus when Wentz left than the Eagles did.

    The Great

    1) Kupp. He gets the top spot here for the combination of breaking records and breaking tackles. We’re really looking at a Welker like guy with size and power. I don’t know what his ceiling his. That 3rd and ten from deep in our own territory is a personal highlight for me.

    2) Gurley … he’s still fresh late in the year.

    The Good

    3) Robey Coleman playing fast and mean .. he’d be in the “great” but he xdropped that pick.

    4) Our focus down 21-7 …

    5) Quinn stepping it up and playing at high speed.

    6) Trumaine’s coverage of Jeffery. He’s going to have another category, obviously.

    7) Keeping their running game in check.

    8) Williams coming in and being serviceable on both sides of the line.

    9) Troy HIll I thought had a great game. I think his contract is up? Anyone know about that? I could see him getting us a comp pic late.

    The Bad

    10) Webster’s injury changes a lot. I was planning on drafting two CBs (since I’m obviously in charge) … but now I’m drafting them pretty early.

    11) Was that rumor that Sammy wants to test the market accurate? If that’s the case a one year rental for a second round pick seems bad, but it will likely get us a pick back. So bad, but not terrible. He’ll end up on the Cowboys or Redskins. Hopefully NOT the 9ers.

    The Ugly

    12) Jared … dude, you CANNOT stand in the pocket that long without having that ball protected. I didn’t think Williams did a bad job …Long came all the way around the backside and had to work back upfield. Basically ran all the way around and circled back. And even then if it’s just a sack Foles has to drive the whole field to kick the eventual gamewinner ..

    13) Josh, you CANNOT run a 2.5 yard route on 3rd and 3 in the NFL.

    14) Losing to Nick Foles and Case Keenum in the same season.

The Reffing (yes this is PAST the Ugly section)

    15) This is the first time I’ve heard Mike Perreira say “I have no idea what they saw” … that cost us 2 minutes. That was a big two minutes.

    16) The penalty on Tru. Yes, he was talking. He and Jeffery were going back and forth all game. He wasn’t standing over him. maybe he said some choice South Park level stuff to him that we couldn’t hear … but they didn’t say “taunting” … and he wasn’t touching him. That was a seven point penalty.
That said? Tru, seriously dude, you CANNOT do that Fisher era 7-9 BS.

    17) The holding call on Sullivan … his block was so good they called holding? Turned a 20 yard gain into a drive killer.
